3 weeks in and it’s all happening!! The major super-secret project is well under way, preparations for the IMM have begun, Ben and Becky have tried Vegemite, and I am currently running on 3 hours sleep.

The last 48 hours have been a whirlwind of research and report writing in which I have been awake for pretty much all of it. My first major piece of assessment was due at 7am (UK time) today and I was very pleased with myself when I was able to submit it at about midnight last night, until…… I noticed a slight problem with the PDF only after I had submitted it, needless to say you only get 1 shot at submitting work online. Isn’t technology grand!! No biggie though, I sent a swift email to the right people explaining the problem and fingers crossed it shouldn’t affect my grade. In terms of the major project, we have established a timeline and in order to finish on time we need to stick to the schedule, this would be a lot easier if I didn’t have to submit a bloody report at the same time the research phase was meant to conclude, again no biggie. Luckily I spent the previous day getting all the necessary research up to speed and I hope to finish this in the next few days. Next is the fun part, conceptualisation and design!! This is where we let our little minds run free and see who can come up with the best design. I would be lying if I said we haven’t already got excited and kind of already started, we wouldn’t be innovators if we hadn’t!!

I finally got to meet Dan this week, he has been rather busy the past couple of weeks moving house and recovering from mad cow disease. He has since made a full recovery and we have spent the last couple of nights planning for the coming months. It has been great watching Ben and Dan work together, the creative energy is incredibly motivating. In the space of 2 nights they have managed to come up with possible design solutions for new products, methods for continuing others, they have met with the crew from Envy Coating to discuss powder coating, planned for the IMM, planned for London-to-Brighton, planned for another trade show (the name of which has slipped my mind), composed a timeline, shot a video for the TimTam/Penguin challenge (coming soon), discussed concepts for the major project and provided advice for my report, all while Ben ran around like a headless chook attending to his kids and cooking dinner. Man alive, I’m exhausted just thinking about it. As I said it’s all very exciting watching everything come together, especially the IMM planning. We have big things in mind, I don’t want to give too much away but it will be a very illuminating experience, so make sure you come and check out our Minivation stall.

Now, on to more important issues. I have noticed pretty much since my arrival that you Poms have a lot of similar things that we have back home. We have TimTams, you have it’s inferior cousin the Penguin; we have The Gold Coast, Bondi and Bells Beach, you have Watergate Bay, Pentle Bay, and Blackpool Sands; you have wind, ice, and rain, we have sunshine; you have Marmite, and we have Vegemite. As it is customary when visiting abroad, I have brought a few of Australias finest delicacies for my English hosts to enjoy. The TimTams were a hit! Unfortunately the vegemite wasn’t quite as popular as I had expected; Ben and Becky each tried a miniscule amount, both with reacted as if they had just eaten the contents of a cats litter tray – I wish them both a speedy recovery. Having said all that, I am thoroughly enjoying my time here, I feel as though it is important to experience life outside the norm and I can say that the beautiful English country side is vastly different to the landscapes back home, I certainly look forward to experiencing more of it.

Anyway, no rest for the wicked……

‘Ooroo!
